Our story
Wild Child Playgarden & Wildschooling is a bilingual, nature-rooted, heart-centered learning community for families from around the world who are reimagining education together.
Our programs are flexible and responsive.
They are shaped by child-centered pedagogies and deep attunement with children, families, and the world we live in.
We are based in Nosara, Costa Rica.
We are open year-round.
We gather Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm at Wild Child Playgarden, and on Saturdays from 8:30 am to 11:30 am at Harmony Co-op Playground in Guiones Beach.
Before and aftercare is available Monday through Friday, extending our hours from 7:00 am to 4:15 pm. A daily shuttle service is also available.
We are moving toward greater continuity through small, intimate groups and committed cohorts, while continuing to welcome shorter stays when space and the rhythm of each group allow.

wild child is a place of remembrance
We remember the village, and we recognize that today, the village is global.
Families move fluidly between countries, cultures, and ways of life.
Children are no longer rooted in one place, but in many worlds at once.
And so we cultivate spaces of true belonging where each child is received as they are, and comes to feel at home within themselves, wherever they are in the world.
We remember the origin of the word school.
scholē: a state of leisure, of unhurried time for wonder, reflection, creation, and presence.
We remember the purpose of education: not to fill, shape, or accelerate, but to draw forth what is innate, and to support the flourishing of the human being. Education was never meant to separate us from life, but to root us more deeply within it.
We remember that children are whole. Capable. Innately wise. Each child carries a unique rhythm, a distinct voice, a way of seeing that is entirely their own. We honor their sovereignty; not by directing whom they should become, but by safeguarding the integrity of who they already are.
We remember right relationship with self, with others, and with the living world that holds us.
We remember how to listen. To children. To nature. To curiosity. To what is quietly asking to emerge. And above all, we remember that we are not separate from nature, but an expression of it.

Core Foundations of our curriculum

reimagining education

We reimagine school by expanding beyond its traditional boundaries.
We are open year-round, in rhythm with the lives of the families we serve: nomadic, rooted, and everything in between.
We listen deeply to the needs, desires, and rhythms of each family, curating experiences that are personal, intentional, and alive.
Learning here is not standardized.
It is relational.
Responsive.
Designed with care.
Families arrive from different parts of the world, each carrying stories, cultures, languages, and ways of seeing. We welcome these as treasures, inviting them to be shared and woven into the collective life of the community.
In this way, the village becomes global. And each child learns not only where they come from, but how to be at home anywhere.
Our work extends beyond one place.
We are in relationship with schools, educators, and learning communities across California, New York, and Europe.
Rewilding & Regenerative Education
At Wild Child, we reimagine school through rewilding and regenerative education. We are returning learning to its natural state: embodied, creative, relational, and responsive to life as it unfolds. We understand education as a regenerative practice:
one that restores connection, nurtures well-being, and supports both individual freedom and collective care.
Our days are guided by what we value most:
Leadership: cultivated through responsibility, voice, and meaningful participation, as children experience themselves as capable contributors within a living community.
Mindfulness: rooted in presence, emotional and sensory awareness, and deep listening, as children learn to notice, name, and move through their inner world.
Rewilding: a return to the body and the senses, as children climb, build, move, create, and come into direct relationship with the natural world.
Stewardship: expressed through care in action, as children tend the land, the ocean, and the living systems they are part of.

Here, nature is the classroom,
the world is the curriculum, and learning is alive.
This is a school that does not rush childhood or extract outcomes, but trusts rhythm, presence, curiosity, and relationship as the foundations of learning.
At Wild Child, there is joy in learning, freedom in being, and love in how we guide and discipline. Boundaries are rooted in respect, care, and intention.
Here, school is togetherness and individuality.
It is a place where children learn how to be themselves, how to love themselves, and how to think both creatively and critically. A place where their voices matter, where dreams and visions are shared, and where curiosity leads the way.
Our school is not a system imposed from above. It is a co-creation—shaped by children’s curiosity, families’ values, and life as it unfolds.
Wild Child Playgarden & Wildschooling is a school that believes it is time to change the storytellers. It is time to remember how to live in right relationship with ourselves, with one another, and with all living beings. It is time to be enchanted by the world we live in.
